Seven Kings and Goodmayes Allotment Society runs allotment sites for its members at Vicarage Lane Allotments (North and South), Benton Road Allotments, Wards Road North Allotments, (all off Ley Street) and behind Pooles Court flats in Goodmayes Lane Allotments.
The society has been running allotment sites for its members since 1928 – more than 90 years!
The society leases its sites from the council and then runs them using voluntary officers, site stewards and helpers from the membership.
We have no paid staff so all members are expected to do their bit where possible, from trimming the grass paths round their own plot, to mowing communal areas, removing litter or offering whatever maintenance or organisational skills they have that might be useful to the running of the society.
There are society trading huts, open on Sunday mornings, at Vicarage Lane South and Goodmayes Lane, where members may purchase high quality – yes, better than the shops – seed potatoes, onion sets, packeted seeds, fertilisers, composts and gardening sundries.
We also hire out strimmers and a rotovator to members who wish to use them. Or you can just pop in for some advice and a friendly chat.
